Presidents Message

Spring is in the air and our float is almost completely torn apart. The guys will start working on the base of the new float soon and Jason has already started making the fish. Thanks to Jason’s innovative thinking we are offering the fish for sale. For $400 anyone can purchase a fish and decorate it themselves and after the float takes its majestic ride down Colorado Boulevard next year, the fish will be yours to take home.

I’d like to welcome the new Miss Downey and Miss Teen Downey courts and their families to the Rose Float Family. We have a great court and are looking forward to a great year with them.

I’d like to thank all of those who worked on the pageant: Danielle, Aaron, Ray, Herb, Margie, Carol, Madelyn, Cheri, Mike, Judy, Andrew, Josh, Negrete, Carl, the 2008 Miss Downey & Miss Teen Downey Courts, Annette, Barbara, Sue, Liz, Lee Ann, Amanda, Rick, Kelley, Pam, Mike & Joyce Prokop and anyone else I may have missed. Without all of you, we couldn’t have had another successful pageant!

I’d like to thank the sponsors of the pageant this year: Kathleen Midstokke, Portofino’s, Del Rio Lanes, Embassy Suites Hotel, Paramount Iceland, Lauren Baumann, Lee Ann Sears, Danielle Storey, Gary DeRemer, La Mexicana Spice, Downey Party Rentals, Pageantry Props, Circle C Printing, Trinity Baptist Church and the Women’s Club of Downey. Without these sponsors we wouldn’t be able to have great events for the girls or give them participation gifts.

We are gearing up for Kids Day and the Fireworks booth, please contact Mike Artherton if you are able to donate to these events.

Membership is an important part of any organization and the Rose Float is no exception, whether you can donate time or just be a card carrying member it helps to make our organization strong. Please remember to renew your dues and encourage your friends, family and co-workers to join our group.

Danielle and Aaron are working on the website to improve some of the features and make paying your dues or purchasing memorabilia online. Keep checking it out for updates. We also have a group page on Facebook for those techie members, check it out for upcoming events, postings by members, etc.

Our rendering is done and will be framed soon for display at future events. Keep an eye out for it. Tom Neighbors did a fantastic job and I am excited to see it come to life! We should have a vibrant float this year!
